The multimedia.

The term multimedia is used to refer to any object or system that uses multiple physical or digital means of expression to present or communicate information. Hence the term multimedia. The media can be varied, from text and images, to animation, sound, video, etc. You can also qualify as a media to electronic media or other means for storing and displaying multimedia content. Multimedia is similar to traditional use of mixed media in fine art, but with a broader scope.

There is talk of interactive multimedia when the user has free control over the presentation of content, about what it is you want to see and when; unlike a direct presentation, which is forced to view content in a predetermined order.

Multimedia is a technology that allows the integration of text, numbers, graphics, still or moving images, sounds, high level of interactivity and also the possibilities of navigation along different documents.

Hypermedia could be considered as a special interactive multimedia employing more complex structures that increase navigation user control over the flow of information. The term "hyper" refers to "navigation", hence the concepts of "hypertext" (navigation between texts) and "hypermedia" (navigation between media).

Multimedia concept is as old as human communication as to express in a normal conversation talk (sound), write (text), we observe our interlocutor (video) and we activate gestures and hand movements (animation). With the rise of multimedia applications for computer this word became part of everyday language.

When a computer program, document or presentation properly combines the media, significantly improves attention, understanding and learning; as they bring something else to the usual way humans communicate, when we use multiple senses to understand the same object and inform us about it.
